Be a Part of the 2022 Kentucky Meeting: Dentistry & All that Jazz!

On behalf of the Kentucky Dental Association Executive Board, Council on Annual Session and the KDA staff, we welcome you to the 2022 KDA Annual Meeting, Thursday, August 25 through Sunday, August 28, at French Lick Resort in French Lick, IN – just a short one-hour drive from Louisville. We welcome everyone to experience dentistry & all that jazz at French Lick’s two very beautiful, Gatsby-like hotels, French Lick Springs and West Baden Springs.

Non-members can attend for only $299.00!
Non-Members can register for the 2022 Kentucky Meeting for $299. This fee includes entry into the exhibit hall and may apply towards 2022 KDA membership dues.

Dental students are welcome! Oh, the fun you will have…
We invite all dental students and pre-students to take part in the weekend’s festivities. The exhibit hall and events are all free for you, but you must register online and request a ticket for Friday night’s Masquerade Ball, Friday night’s student/new dentist Reception at Pluto’s Alley, featuring bowling, other games, pizza and bar access, Saturday’s course just for you, “Fast Track to Practice Ownership” and Saturdays morning’s student/new dentist Garden Party Brunch, featuring a Mimosa and Bloody Mary bar. Students also may have the opportunity to audit many of our other CE courses, but you must get permission from each speaker of your choice.

We have hotel room blocks.
See our preliminary program for our hotel room block information and please note that you must register online through the provided hotel link to get the room block discounts! Please use the same link when booking rooms at both hotels and use GROUP CODE 0822KDA.

Convenience and safety are priority one.
This year, we have combined some receptions and events to make it easy for everyone to mix and mingle! And for everyone’s safety and health, we will adhere to the latest CDC guidelines, whatever they may be in August.

To kick off Friday night’s festivities, we welcome back as our very special guest and keynote speaker, Kenny Aronoff, world class drummer.
Kenny is a bestselling author and speaker with an inspirational message for dentists about how to be a rock star in life. He is one of Rolling Stone Magazine’s top 100 drummers of all time. You’ve seen and heard his drumming with artists like John Mellencamp, Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, The Rolling Stones, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Sting, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger, Dave Grohl, Elton John, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Bon Jovi, Steven Tyler, The Smashing Pumpkins, Meatloaf, B.B. King, Rod Stewart and John Fogerty.” We can’t think of anyone who might turn a better spin on leadership than Kenny. It will be a very special night.

Friday night, join us for our annual William Marcus Randall Memorial Reception, Awards Presentation and President’s Reception.
This reception is open to everyone on Friday, August 26th from 8:00 p.m. –11:30 p.m. in the Clifton Ballroom in French Lick Springs Hotel. This event is FREE, but you MUST have a ticket for admission. 50 Year Club Awards, Presidential Citation Awards and Fellowship Awards will be presented during this reception, and we will also celebrate our 2021 President Dr. Jonathan Rich. There will be food and a cash bar. Everyone is welcome! Thank you to Delta Dental of Kentucky for their generous sponsorship of this event!

As part of this event we will host Pluto’s Underworld Masquerade Ball!

Who the heck is Pluto, you ask? Pluto is the mythical Greek God of the underworld. Pluto Water was a popular trademarked laxative mineral water product that was bottled in French Lick, a location with natural mineral springs, and marketed as being from Pluto’s Spring.

Yes, EVERYONE is invited! Think...Venetian Masks! Think...Gatsby Party! Think...Dress to Impress! Think...Costume Contest! Think...DJ and Dancing! Think...Live Karaoke featuring YOU as the STAR!

Calling all KDA members…
Is there a speaker on our program that you've wanted to meet?  We are looking for those members interested in meeting, greeting and introducing the wonderful speakers we have on our program.  We offer any paid course at no charge for the person who introduces the speaker for that course. Some exceptions may apply. Call for details.

Duties include arriving early to the course to hand out information to the attendees.  Once the course is ready to begin, introduce the speaker. During the presentation, be available to attend to the needs of the speaker should any arise and enjoy the course.  At the end, provide the course code numbers for the attendees to obtain CE credit and collect the CE cards. These cards are then returned to the registration desk on Level 2 of the French Lick Springs Hotel.

Call the KDA office as soon as possible to get the speaker of your choice.

Take advantage of our featured CE courses! Check out our Friday schedule…
Begin your Friday morning with Dr. Thomas Larkin & Tosha Kozloski, RDH, as they present, “The Future of Dental Hygiene Is Now - A look Into the Technologies and Techniques that will Define the Future Practice of Dental Hygiene” & “Case Studies - Incorporating Salivary Diagnostics into Everyday Practice”, plus a Q&A session!

Or join Dr. Juan Yepes and his course, “Pediatric Oral Radiology: From Radiation Safety to Lesions to CBCT.” Topics such as radiation safety, digital radiology, CBCT in pediatric dentistry, radiographic interpretation and common radiographic lesions in children will be covered in this seminar.

Dr. Ashley Clark will teach us about “Preventing Oral Cancer: A Discussion on Potentially Malignant Disorders.” This course is designed to provide an overview of premalignant lesions found in the oral cavity.

Dr. Anne Koch will present, “Endodontics Revisited.” In this new all-day course, Dr. Koch begins with a review of generic endodontics. Topics such as how to achieve profound anesthesia and properly accessed molar teeth will be introduced right at the beginning. Furthermore, a vision for endodontic success will be established by discussing techniques and products “so sophisticated, they’re simple to use.”

Then, Dr. Len Tau will show you how to “Dominate Your Marketing, Online.” There are so many options to choose from when it comes to website design, paid advertising, online reviews and search engine optimization.

Dr. Thomas Viola tells us “It’s (Medically) Complicated! Essential Pharmacology for Treating our Medically Complex Dental Patients.” This program will provide an overview of the dental implications of the prescription medications, nonprescription medications, herbal products, nutritional supplements and substances of abuse most frequently used by patients.

Dr. Pam VanArsdall teaches us about “Alzheimer’s Disease: A New Hope for Prevention and Treatment.” Discovered over 100 years ago, Alzheimer’s Disease has long been a dreaded diagnosis with little hope for treatment. In the last two decades, great strides have been made in our understanding of the mechanisms that underlie this form of dementia, enhancing our ability to prevent and treat Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr. Sam Halabo will present, “Stick it Real Good...Bonding & Cementation with Predictable Materials”, which will show evidence-based data, case presentations and simple methods of treating most cementation procedures.

In her presentation, “Dentists, Hygienists and Cows”, Brandi Hooker-Evans wants you to stop herding cattle and discover how to improve patient health while simultaneously cultivating a patient-centered, evidence-based and profitable periodontal therapy program in your practice.

In the afternoon, one of our favs, Dr. George Kushner will present “Bisphosphonates, Osteonecrosis of the Jaws (ONJ) and Dentistry - Where Are We Now and What Do We Know?” This lecture will review what we currently know about bisphosphonates, including recommendations for dental management and prevention of ONJ.  We will also discuss what is uncertain at this early stage of the new pathologic entity.

Dr. Pam VanArsdall will talk about “Foods that Fight Cancer”, discussing the latest studies that focus on specific phytochemicals (and the foods that contain them) and cancer and also the role of foods in inflammation, as many experts believe chronic inflammation creates a favorable environment for cancer growth.

Then, Dr. Juan Yeses will discuss “Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Children: The Dentist’s Role.”

Dr. Mark Nation will present, “Delivering Comprehensive Dental Implant Care in the General Dental Practice: Keys to Surgical and Restorative Success and Profitability.” The learning objectives that will be shared and discussed in detail will allow the participant to have a well-understood overview of each topic and be able to take the next step toward implementing dental implant therapy as a larger component of their practice.

Dr. Sam Halabo will tell us about “Innovations in Composite Technology: Versatile, Simplistic and Cost Effective”, which will present composite and bonding systems that will help you achieve the goals of speed, esthetics and productivity.
Next, Dr. George Kushner gives us “Complications in Dentistry”. By studying possible complications, we can, hopefully, decrease the potential complication rate in our own patient population.

Dr. Ashley Clark will discuss “Ulcerative Conditions of the Oral Cavity”, which is designed to inform the participant about ulcerative conditions - lesions of the oral cavity ranging from common entities to more rare dermatologic conditions with oral manifestations.

Dr. Thomas Viola asks the question: “Something in our Mist: Will Vaping Challenge the Dental Profession as Smoking has in the Past?”
Then, Brandi Hooker-Evans presents “Inflammation Avenue: A Two-Way Street.” In this course, we will take a deep dive into periodontal disease as it connects to other diseases.

And, finally on Friday afternoon, Amanda Chastain discusses “Navigating the Orofacial Respiratory Complex Epidemic: Creating a Flight Path for Success”, which outlines the current epidemic impacting how our orofacial respiratory complex develops and its influence on health, wellness and the ability to thrive across the lifespan.

Make your Saturday schedule productive!
First up on Saturday morning, learn about “Top Coding and Documentation Strategies - Maximize Your Insurance Reimbursement” with Practice Booster’s coding expert Dr. Greg Grobmyer. Not only will you learn to avoid common errors, you will also learn coding strategies and documentation methods that make the most of your insurance participation.

Next, Dr. Leslie Horn will begin “Setting the Stage: Interdisciplinary Treatment Planning and Implementation of Hard and Soft Tissue Augmentation Techniques for Best Clinical Outcomes.” This half-day lecture will provide a system for treatment planning complex interdisciplinary cases and demonstrate predictable techniques of hard and soft tissue augmentation.

Then, join Dr. Mark Nation for “My Life, My Dentistry: Diagnostic and Treatment Protocols for the Fully Edentulous.” This course is a companion course to Dr. Brandon Stapleton’s course, “My Life, My Dentistry: Digital Techniques for the Fully Edentulous” Saturday PM Session. Drs. Nation and Stapleton share similar treatment philosophies and techniques. These companion lectures will greatly enhance the footprint of fully edentulous implant therapy characteristics in any practice, from patient selection to continued support.

Dr. Len Tau will help you “Skyrocket Your Case Acceptance Using Software Technology.” You may be the best clinician with the most precise hand skills, but if you cannot articulate why patients should allow you to treat their dental needs, then your success in dentistry will be limited.

Join Brandi Hooker-Evans for “Eat It: A Fun and Doable Guide to an Inflammation Reducing and Tasty Life for Fabulous Dental Professionals and Their Patients.” Join Brandi in a journey to a healthier you and your patients, too!

Hey, there, students and new dentists! Dr. Sean Aiken is going to help you learn “The Fast Track to Practice Ownership for New Graduates.”

If you are a Medicaid provider or even if you are not, join Dr. Garth Bobrowski, Moderator, Dr. Jerry Caudill, Dr. Adam Rich and Kentucky Medicaid Commissioner Lisa Lee for a panel discussion to help answer your Medicaid questions.

Dr. Robin Carroll will share his “Lessons Learned” - Part 1- twenty-two lessons that you can use in improving your organization.

Then, once again, join Dr. Thomas Larkin & Tosha Kozloski, RDH, as they present, “The Future of Dental Hygiene Is Now - A look Into the Technologies and Techniques that will Define the Future Practice of Dental Hygiene” & “Case Studies - Incorporating Salivary Diagnostics into Everyday Practice”, plus a Q&A session.

Dr. Greg Grobmyer will tell us about “Recent CDT Changes, Common Errors and Underutilized Codes.”

Dr. Brandon Stapleton will tell you about “My Life, My Dentistry: Digital Techniques for the Fully Edentulous.” This course is a companion course to Dr. Mark Nation’s course, “My Life My Dentistry: Diagnostic and Treatment Protocols for the Fully Edentulous” Saturday AM Session. Drs. Nation and Stapleton share similar treatment philosophies and techniques. For a more thorough overview and understanding of the surgical and restorative paths required for these restorations, we recommend that participants attend both courses.

Then, Dr. Robin Carroll is “Going Deeper” - Part 2, as a follow-up to his morning session “Lessons Learned”.

Amanda Chastain will teach us about “Navigating the Orofacial Respiratory Complex Epidemic: Trajectory for Health & Wellness.” This course compliments Friday afternoon’s “Navigating the Orofacial Respiratory Complex Epidemic: Creating a Flight Plan for Success” course by looking deeper at the systemic impact of orofacial myofunctional disorders, how our current practices contribute and negatively influence development and how simple steps and interventions can change the trajectory of a person’s health and wellness journey.

“I’ve Found This Lesion…Now What?” This session will be a three-hour clinical pathologic conference applicable to all members of the dental team. Drs. George Kushner and Brian Shumway round out the instructor team.

Patty Bonasso Byrd will give us the lowdown on “OSHA and Infection Control in the Dental Office 2022”.

And, finally on Saturday afternoon, Dr. Robert Harris will talk about “The Clinical Use of Ozone in Dentistry”.

Dependable Sunday!
Sunday will bring our staple courses, “Basic Life Support-BLS Healthcare Provider Training” with our popular instructor, Mr. Dewayne Livers and Dr. George Kushner’s “Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office”.

In addition, Patty Byrd will present, “Recognizing Drug Abuse in Dental Patients and KASPER Update 2022”. Drug abuse is a major health problem in America and impacts every dental practice as well as our families. Dental professionals can play a huge role in drug abuse identification, prevention and intervention. Emphasis will be placed on increasing your skills and abilities to recognize the signs and symptoms of drug abuse, refer suspected drug abusers for help and treat recovering patients in your practice. This course satisfies the KBOD’s HB 1 KASPER requirement.
