Course Description: This interactive presentation explores the connection between oral health and overall health, with emphasis on periodontal disease, oral inflammation, cardiovascular and brain health, sleep deprivation, and sleep apnea. Participants will examine the important role of the dental team in recognizing risk factors, educating patients, supporting healthier habits, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to improve patient outcomes. This session also introduces practical behavior-change strategies that can help both patients and oral health professionals make meaningful, lasting improvements in health and wellness
Learning Objectives
- At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the oral-systemic connection and explain how oral inflammation, periodontal disease, and other oral health conditions may influence overall health.
- Recognize the effects of sleep deprivation and sleep apnea on health, daily functioning, and oral health outcomes across the lifespan.
