Course Description: The specialty of orofacial pain has significantly reshaped how practitioners understand and manage temporomandibular disorders (TMD). Clinicians must recognize that TMD represents only one category within the broader spectrum of orofacial pain conditions. Clinical success depends on the ability to distinguish TMD from other sources of orofacial pain so that appropriate, targeted treatment can be selected. This presentation will clarify the role of TMD within the overall field of orofacial pain, outline key features that allow clinicians to confidently identify the TMD patient, and address common misconceptions that frequently contribute to misdiagnosis.

•             Describe the role of the dentist in managing TMD.

•             List the cardinal clinical signs of TMD.

•             Understand the responsibilities of a good dental healthcare provider.
