Have more confidence in diagnosing and treating pediatric dental trauma!  This course will provide a great refresher of current pediatric oral/dental trauma guidelines with step by step methods to evaluate and treat everything from that gray front primary tooth to splinting an avulsed immature permanent tooth.

We will also review commonly prescribed antibiotics and analgesics for pediatric patients. 

 

Educational Objectives:

Following this presentation, the learner will be able to:

•Recognize and properly diagnose soft tissue and dental trauma in pediatric patients

•Provide appropriate treatment for soft and hard tissue injuries

•Provide appropriate traumatic injury follow up

•Provide appropriate post-trauma antibiotic and analgesic advice to parents

  • Soft Tissue Only Injuries
  • Dental traumatic Injuries
  • Alveolar Housing Fractures

This course is open to all dental team members.

After receiving her Bachelor of Science in biology from Temple University, Dr. Kelly Kirtland earned her Doctorate of Dental Science degree at Texas A&M College of Dentistry.  Dr. Kirtland completed her general practice dental residency at Denver Health Medical Center and pediatric dental residency at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

She is a board certified pediatric dentist and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.  Dr. Kirtland has a passion for learning and studying, proven by her many degrees, including an M.S. in Nutrition and an M.A. in Educational Administration.

Dr. Kirtland is passionate about teaching.  She is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor at University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College, where she teaches intro to Pharmacology for nursing students.  Dr. Kirtland serves as an Oral Boards Examiner at the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD) and writes and edits questions for the written section of the dental board exam as part of the ABPD QE subcommittee.
