Fridays Night’s Keynote Speaker,
Emma Chandler, General Manager of
Barrels & Billets, associated with the Louisville Slugger
Museum & Factory, will provide an interesting
and enjoyable presentation.
The name ‘Barrels & Billets’ is a nod to Hillerich & Bradsby Co.’s history and connection with wood. That connection goes back more than a century and a half, when J. Frederick Hillerich immigrated to America from Germany on October 7, 1842 and eventually moved to Louisville. Once there, he opened his own wood shop. At the time, part of his business included barrel making for the growing Bourbon industry. In 1884, the family company jumped into the baseball bat business. “Billets” refers to the thick, cylindrical pieces of wood that are used at Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory to make baseball bats. Emma will open up with a bit of information on what the Barrels & Billets experience entails, and then will dive into the journey of developing Barrels & Billets, and what it was like to be a part of opening up a new business. Her presentation will have a heavy focus on the teamwork that was required, challenges she and the team had to overcome, Emma’s personal career development, and what has been learned since they opened their doors to the public.
