This course satisfies the continuing education requirement for Kentucky Dental License renewal as specified in 201 KAR 8:532, Section 10(e) concerning the use of the Kentucky All Scheduled Prescription Reporting System (KASPER) and addiction disorders. It also satisfies 3 hours of the MATE requirement. The course will discuss the history of the opioid epidemic, review the requirements of KASPER, discuss recent changes to KASPER, provide practical utilization of e-KASPER for the practicing dentist and discuss changes in the management of acute dental pain.
Course Objectives:
1. Understand the current opioid epidemic
2. Describe the requirements of KASPER
3. Discuss recent KASPER updates
4. Discuss practical utilization of e-KASPER for the dentist
5. Identify the most prescribed controlled substances in Kentucky
6. Discuss management of acute dental pain
7. Describe analgesic drug interactions and contraindications
8. Identify resources available to dentists

Kentucky Board of Dentistry Regulation for Continuing Education Requirement (KASPER) 201 KAR 8:532. Dentists are required to complete 3 hours of continuing education that relates to the use of the electronic monitoring system, pain management or addiction disorders prior to renewing their license every renewal cycle.
