Please Join Us for an Exciting, Event-Filled Year Ahead!

Greetings Everyone! Well, it is 2010 and my wish is that everyone has had a great beginning to the new decade or as some say, a great ending to the old decade.

It seems that Father Time keep pushing, racing the calendar.  Before you know it, April will arrive and with it the 150th Anniversary of the Kentucky Dental Association.  The Annual Meeting is Thursday, April 8th through Sunday, April 11th.  The highlight of the meeting will be a Gala Celebration Dinner on Friday night.  The party will be a “don’t miss” occasion!  The tickets for the celebration are $100 per individual, $150 per couple and $600 per table.  As you know, proceeds from the Gala will support our Kentucky Dental Foundation.  The Foundation is our philanthropic entity that supports many dental outreach programs in Kentucky.  I am looking forward to seeing each of you at the Gala to honor our past and celebrate our future.  Please see our Kentucky Meeting section in this issue for details!

During the past four and one-half months, our most significant project has been our involvement in helping to write a new Dental Practice Act.  The collaborative efforts of the Kentucky Board of Dentistry, the Kentucky Dental Association, the Kentucky Dental Hygiene Association, the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry and the University of Louisville School of Dentistry have produced a positive, updated Dental Practice Act.  While not perfect, it represents the cooperative efforts of all involved and goes a long way toward addressing some concerns.  It is now in the state legislature and is House Bill (HB) 256.

Representative Keith Hall has introduced HB256 and through the efforts of Mike Porter and others, we have 20 co-sponsors at this writing.  Your KDA Executive Board has spent a number of hours reviewing and providing input in this effort, and as a result is able to endorse HB 256.  The complete text of the bill is available on the Kentucky Board of Dentistry website. My thanks go to Dr. John Creech, Mr. Porter, and the KDA Executive Board for their efforts in this challenging undertaking.

Please circle your calendars for September 17, 18, and 19 of 2010.  The first RAM (Remote Area Medical) project west of I-65 in Kentucky will be held on these dates at Freedom Hall in Louisville.  As plans are finalized, we will keep you informed, but we hope to have a very large number of participants representing the KDA.  Additional information for this event may be found on page ___ of this publication.

Finally, check out our website (www.kyda.org).  The program for the meeting is online and you can register, purchase speaker tickets, event tickets, and your Gala tickets online.  Check out the revisions and let us know what you think!

We have a year of exciting events ahead—we want you to be a part of them.
